WOODEN INDIAN BURIAL GROUND formed in Portland, Oregon in 2007. As a duo the band employed banjo’s, chord organs, fuzz guitars and other various instruments, making a glorious racket across the Western, Central, and Southern United States. This incited an 11 track album of lo-fi experimental folk tunes that they self-released in 2008. The band grew in numbers and influence, playing shows under various names with various members until settling down with a stable lineup and signing with the Mon Amie record label in 2010.

After a bit of a hiatus and some lineup changes and whatnot, GANGLY YOUTH of Louisville, Kentucky return! Their sound is a mix of jangly noise, fuzzy pop, and a no-perfection required style. One might be reminded of bands like Sonic Youth, The Pixies, or warped cassettes playing favorite pop songs.

After cutting their teeth with four drummers and a recent tour to Malaysia, GANGLY YOUTH of Louisville, Kentucky is finally hitting their stride. Their sound is a mix of jangly noise, fuzzy pop, and a no-perfection required style. One might be reminded of bands like Sonic Youth, The Pixies, or warped cassettes playing favorite pop songs.

IMAG0754-1

Christian DeRoeck began LITTLE GOLD as a way to exorcize the demons that had accumulated during his tenure with psychedelic revivalists Woods.  The lineup shifted gradually, then suddenly, and finally in 2012 DeRoeck left NYC for good to settle in Athens, GA.  He reassembled LITTLE GOLD with his good friend John McLean (of Dead Dog and Todd Killings) and they continued to do what LITTLE GOLD has always done, craft delightful pop songs about the seedy underbelly of day-to-day existence.

TODD KILLINGS was founded by a 14 year-old John McLean (Dead Dog, Nasty Intentions) in 1994 with a leftover bottle of brandy, a dictaphone, and an Angry Samoans album in the pine barrens of southern New Jersey. TODD KILLINGS remained the secret recording outlet for McLean’s pop songs, unlistenable noise, and screamo riffs.  TODD KILLINGS finally found the enthusiastic and talented rhythm section of Christian DeRoeck (Little Gold, Woods) playin’ fuzzy melodic bass and Chase Merritt (The Mammies, Sleepy Co.) tapping on the tambourines & floor tom with a pair of glowsticks.

Former Louisvillian and one-time Sapat member AARON ROSENBLUM will be providing “laid-back field recording grooves” between bands for your listening pleasure.

WOODS from Brookyln, New York create a distinctive blend of spooky campfire folk, lo-fi rock, homemade tape collages, and other noisy interludes, all anchored by deceptively sturdy melodies. Check out a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUfDu147PVM

MMOSS is a quartet based in Dover, New Hampshire that derives its energy and inspiration from late 60’s psych rock. Take legendary freak folk outfit Comus, pipe their music through a PA and fling that PA into space. That’s what MMOSS sounds like. Like psychedelic-prog broadcasted through Mir’s internal sound system. Check out a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPfA4poE6XM

WHIPS/CHAINS, ROYAL BATHS, and GANGLY YOUTH at CHESTNUT HOUSE, Sunday February 19th

Cropped Out and The Other Side of Life are proud to present:

WHIPS/CHAINS (Louisville, KY; members of Xerxes, Black God, Coliseum)
ROYAL BATHS
(Brooklyn, NY; on Kanine Records and Woodsist)
GANGLY YOUTH (Louisville, KY)

Sunday, February 19th
at Chestnut House
714 E. Chestnut Street
7 PM, $5, ALL AGES!

WHIPS/CHAINS is a band from Louisville, Kentucky. WHIPS/CHAINS plays loud, slow, quiet, fast, noisy, precise, angry, sludgy, blasting, down-tuned, punk, hardcore. WHIPS/CHAINS is Will Allard (Xerxes), Ben Sears (Black God), and Ryan Patterson (Black God, Coliseum).

Jeremy Cox and Jigmae Baer started ROYAL BATHS without a plan in mind but soon the foundation for their writing found inspiration from Cox’s interest in the alternate and open tunings of delta blues, their shared fascination in the African rhythm of early Chicago blues, and Baer lyrically attempting to reflect with black humor and little judgment, and the thrills and troubles they stumble through. Recording on whatever cheap four or single-track cassette recorder they could find, they eventually borrowed a Tascam 388 to make their first 7″. Their new album Better Luck Next Life is set to be released by Kanine Records on February 7, 2012. ROYAL BATHS “take cues from Neil Young’s lightning-struck guitar sermons and the Velvet Underground’s creeping paranoia” — PITCHFORK.

GANGLY YOUTH, is a 5 piece band from Louisville, Kentucky. Led by Dan Davis along with Brent Mills, Daniel Tilford, Ashley Urjil-Mills, and Nate Woodard, the band writes jangly, fuzzy, reverb soaked “pop” songs. Pulling from a wide array of influences and a very small amount of technical skill, GANGLY YOUTH applies a shared punk mentality and manages to make songs that are refreshing and new, yet familiar all the same.
